This features all three Dragon Enchanted paranormal romances by Sophie Stern. Book 1: One mage. One dragon shifter. One fate. Tabitha was destined to be great, but fate had other plans. When her family is slaughtered by an evil witch who will stop at nothing to rule the world, Tabitha embarks on a journey to find the mage. Tabitha has just one goal: to kill the woman who stole her destiny. Ursula may have taken her parents, and she may have taken her dreams, but Tabitha is going to take her life. In another sordid twist of fate, Tabitha finally manages to find the island where the witch is hiding, but now she has to travel through forgotten jungles, fight hidden beasts, and convince the devilishly handsome man guiding her that she's not as terrible as she looks. Felix is perhaps the most feral man Tabitha has ever met in her life, but he's hiding something behind those fiery eyes, and she intends to find out what. Right after she kills the witch. Book 2: One mage. One dragon shifter. One ruthless journey. Time is running out for Felix. The witch is dead, but he's still trapped on the island she dropped him off on 30-odd years ago. Every time he tries to leave, he feels himself growing weaker. Even being with Tabitha isn't enough to refuel his energy, and Felix fears that by the time they find his true essence, it may be too late. Will Tabitha be able to find the source of Felix's energy before it's too late? Or will he be doomed to be a captive forever? Book 3: The curse is broken, but they aren’t out of the woods. When Tabitha and Felix arrive on Sapphire Island, they think they’re going to be safe. The curse has been broken and the spell has been defeated. It’s time for them to move forward with their lives, only things aren’t as simple as they should be. Will Tabitha ever feel like a member of Felix’s family? Will Raya and Maurice be able to accept her? And when someone from Tabitha’s past follows her to the island, will the family of dragons be able to join together long enough to defeat the villain?

Book excerpt: Enchanted Calvinism's central proposition is that Ghanaian Presbyterian communities, both past and present, have become more enchanted -- more attuned to spiritual explanations of and remedies for suffering -- as they havebecome integrated into capitalist modes of production. The author draws on a Weberian concept of religious enchantment to analyze the phenomena of spiritual affliction and spiritual healing within the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, particularly under the conditions of labor migration: first, in the early twentieth century during the cocoa boom in Ghana and, second, at the turn of the twenty-first century in their migration from Ghana to North America. Relying on extensive archival research, oral interviews, and participant-observation conducted in North America, Europe, and West Africa, this study demonstrates that the more these Ghanaian Calvinists became dependent on capitalist modes of production, the more enchanted their lives and, subsequently, their church became, although in different ways within these two migrations. One striking pattern that has emerged among Ghanaian Presbyterian labor migrants in North America, for example, is a radical shift in gendered healing practices, where women have become prominent healers while a significant number of men have become spirit-possessed. Adam Mohr is Senior Writing Fellow in Anthropology in the Critical Writing Program at the University of Pennsylvania.

Drawing on historical records, the Lambs' books and letters, and recently declassified espionage documents, biographers Julie Huffman-klinkowitz and Jerome Klinkowitz show how the Lambs succeeded in marketing their conquests and films to armchair explorers around the world and how they became, in popular imagination, the quintessential American adventurers."--Jacket.

Having worked in many fields including the law, television, theatre, the corporate world, interior design, retailing, real estate and property development, Sandra has spent the last twenty-five years teaching young children and although she has gained much wisdom in the process insists that she is just a messenger and her role is to inspire others to embrace their own mastery. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This intellectual portrait of Romain Rolland (1866-1944)--French novelist, musicologist, dramatist, and Nobel prizewinner in 1915--focuses on his experiments with political commitment against the backdrop of European history between the two world wars. Best known as a biographer of Beethoven and for his novel, Jean-Christophe, Rolland was one of those nonconforming writers who perceived a crisis of bourgeois society in Europe before the Great War, and who consciously worked to discredit and reshape that society in the interwar period. Analyzing Rolland's itinerary of engaged stands, David James Fisher clarifies aspects of European cultural history and helps decipher the ambiguities at the heart of all forms of intellectual engagement.Moving from text to context, Fisher organizes the book around a series of debates--Rolland's public and private collisions over specific committed stands--introducing the reader to the polemical style of French intellectual discourse and offering insight into what it means to be a responsible intellectual. Fisher presents Rolland's private ruminations, extensive research, and reexamination of the function and style of the French man of letters. He observes that Rolland experimented with five styles of commitment: oceanic mysticism linked to progressive, democratic politics; free thinking linked to antiwar dissent; pacifism and, ultimately, Gandhism; antifacism linked to anti-imperialism, antiracism, and all-out political resistance to fascism; and, most controversially, fellow traveling as a form of socialist humanism and the positive side of antifascism. Fisher views Rolland's engagement historically and critically, showing that engaged intellectuals of that time were neither naive propagandists nor dupes of political parties.David James Fisher makes a case for the committed writer and hopes to re-ignite the debate about commitment. For him, Romain Rolland sums up engagement in a striking, dialectical formula:
